Case study: East Los Angeles Community Corporation
Research shows that Univision – KMEX 34 is one of the most trusted sources of information for Latinos in Los Angeles. So when Arévalo Sánchez was charged with building a public education campaign on behalf of the East LA Community Corporation (ELACC), a non-profit affordable housing and economic development organization, it negotiated and launched a comprehensive media partnership with the station. The campaign included a range of outreach mechanisms, including:
- Co-sponsorship of a citywide housing and transportation policy summit
- Production and broadcast of public service announcements
- A five-part news series on how housing policy and real estate market trends affect Latino families
- A 34 A Su Lado (34 By Your Side) segment to provide education and assistance to families affected by the current foreclosure crisis
- Selection of ELACC spokespersons as expert sources for when the station covers issues related to housing, transportation and neighborhood gentrification
